PolyVoc

PolyVoc contains approximately 148.000 entries which consist of technical terms from plastics technology, macromolecular chemistry and related fields such as mechanical or electrical engineering. PolyVoc translates English/German and German/English.

PolyVoc may be started parallel to any Windows application and may then stay on top or run in the background. Words or phrases may be copied directly from your application and back after translation. The index list which may be shown optionally allows to see possibly related terms.

PolyVoc is an easy-to-use and easy-to-learn system. It rids you of checking out lots of dictionaries. The required translation will appear on your screen instantly.

In a license agreement it has been arranged that a general dictionary from Langenscheidt may be supplied together with the technical dictionary PolyVoc (only for users of PolyVoc version 2007 or better). Within one application a wide range of vocabularies is availabe to the user for carrying out translations.

As an addition to the standard version an editor is available which can be used for extending the database according to your individual needs. The new entries are available for use right after data entry has been completed.

For performing searches for a certain vocabulary you have the following options:

• use the standard database only
• use your own database only
• use both databases for translations

The PolyVoc database is based on the texts used in the material database POLYMAT, the Thesaurus from the database ‘Plastics, rubber, fibres’, a number of entries that come from our own internal-use dictionary and on regular research in English and German publications which are constantly evaluated in order to update the directory.
